My family went to Water Country yesterday and enjoyed the sun and water fun! In addition to myself and my two daughters, my sister, brother-in-law, mother, teenaged nephew and a friend all came with us. I mention this because we ranged in age from 7 to 61 and we all had a great time!
One of the interesting things I noticed is how many people were "disconnected" from cell phones and electronic devices. Water slides and wave pools do not go well with cell phones or an iPod Touch. For as much as I enjoy technology and being connected, it was a nice break to be away from it. While waiting in line for fried dough, we chatted with others in line (not online chats, but real strangers communicating with each other). The teens made small talk, rather than texting friends during lunch.
We still found one way to use digital technology, our waterproof camera! Without the waterproof camera I couldn't share these photos of my daughter in the water.
I could get a waterproof cell phone, but do I really want one???

Hi Cheri,
ReplyDeleteI was so excited to see the underwater pictures! I am going to Water Country next Weds. so thank you for a little preview. Glad to see that you enjoyed the nice sunny day.

I was almost completely out of touch with technology this past week while at cub scout camp with my son at Camp Carpenter! I had my cell phone and could access the weather forecast but could not get on the internet! The funny thing is that I actually enjoyed it! The best part was that not one kid said he was bored! They played cards, whittled, hunted chipmunks and we told stories around a campfire every night! We all should get disconnected for a while, although I would not recommend it while taking two online summer classes!
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures! I know what you mean about being disconnected. It is a nice feeling to just step away for a while and breathe, talk to people face to face and just have a wonderful time!
ReplyDeleteI agree with Joe. Being away and disconnected is great, unless you are taking courses that rely on a stable Internet connection. I do think we all need to unplug once and a while.
ReplyDeleteI know this is off topic, but how did you embed the Voki, I am having trouble doing it? I am not sure how to place in my blog.
ReplyDeleteHi Joe, Off topic is fine..here is how I did it. After creating your Voki, it gets saved in the "my voki" folder at voki.com. Open the Voki you want to embed and underneath it will be a place to choose a destination to "embed in". I chose blogger and then beneath click "code" button. Copy and paste the code you are given.
ReplyDeleteGo to your blog page, click on "customize" and then "add a gadget". Paste the code for your voki in here.
If it doesn't work, let me know and I will try to clarify these directions. Good Luck!
